The longtime voice of Aspen Public Radio was silenced on Tuesday when John Noonan, who served for years as the station’s morning news anchor and host, died of cancer after a long battle with the disease.
For many listeners, Noonan’s baritone voice was synonymous with KAJX as he read from morning newspapers and interviewed guests on his weekly radio show Aspen Media Review.

The Snowmass-Wildcat Fire District is exploring an appeal of a federal judgment against them for more than $500,000 for wrongfully ousting a firefighter who organized a local labor union. A federal jury also found the dismissed fireman has a right to be reinstated with the district.
The fire district representative who led the investigation that culminated in Paul Blangsted’s April 2004 termination said yesterday that the firing had nothing to do with Blangsted’s labor activities or ability as a fireman. Blangsted vandalized a racquetball sign at the Snowmass Club and, according to Deputy Fire Chief John Mele, lied about it during the ensuing investigation.

A popular program that generates money for employee housing by charging
for extra square footage is up for voter renewal in Snowmass Village
this fall.
The Excise Tax is a voluntary tax that voters approved in 1999 and is
set to expire in 2010. The ballot question that voters face on Nov. 4
proposes to continue it in perpetuity.

the final week of the 2008 Aspen Music Festival and School season.
The weeks have passed by so quickly, as if they have given the audience
whiplash. The array of artists who have appeared and adorned the stages
of the Benedict Music Tent, Wheeler Opera House and Harris Hall is a
testament to the drawing power of 81611, Aspen and the Aspen Music
Festival and School. But more about the enchantment of the summer next
